How did you find yourself in journalism?

Journalism became my dream in the 8th grade. It was already then that I started preparing myself for this profession. I went on to study linguistics, because knowing languages is a priceless and essential skill for a journalist. It all began with an internship in the “Interview” magazine where I had the role of an all-purpose soldier (?). I was in charge of marketing, translating articles from an American magazine and writing my own texts, including interviews.

Why did you choose lifestyle and fashion?

I myself didn’t notice how I got carried away by it. It all began with John Galliano when he was still the creative director of Dior. I loved his shows so much that I would rewatch them several times. Then I became interested in him himself, after that I started searching for fashion designers similar to him- and it all went from there.

What does fashion mean to you?

Fashion is the most interesting social phenomenon. It reflects the thought process, the mentality and the key events of the world. Whatever happens, fashion will never disappear, just like art and music.

Where have you worked in VOGUE?

I began my career in the “Interview” magazine, then I started working in the startup company of L’Etoile, which is an internet magazine on fashion, beauty and culture. I would, however, mostly write there about restaurants, cinema and interior. I also wrote for Buro and Time Out. After that I found myself in Lady Mail where I was in charge of the fashion segment and where I try my best to switch the audience’s interest from stars to fashion celebrities (by the way, articles on Natasha Goldenberg and Anna Werber were not less successful than those about Babkina and Valeria).

How did you get into Vogue? Had you previously worked as an intern in Conde Nast?

In Vogue I immediately got the position of a special project editor. I would write on different topics: from washing machines to housing estates to perfumery and collections of cool brands. I became fashion editor after one-and-a-half year of working at the company.

What do you like about your job?

It’s good when a job has a lot of similar things with a hobby. That’s exactly what happened to me: it was even before I got the position that I would sit up until late at night and explore new collections of Vogue Runway, read The Cut and the English Vogue edition and think about how I would dress a celebrity who had not chosen a suitable outfit.

Tell us about one of your rememberable moments starting from the beginning of you working in VOGUE.

What surprised me most was that, even if you have the lower roles, you still have the right to own a personal opinion and to express it freely – it is rare to encounter something like that today! No one is restricted -–on the contrary, initiative is very welcomed here and is usually rewarded later.
